Half Way Through The Year…

It’s now (more than) 6 months since we started creating our new vegetable plot in the orchard area of our garden in Devon, and I think it’s important to do posts like this every so often to reflect on the work we’ve done and how the garden develops throughout the seasons.

How to Upcycle a Tractor Tyre in the Garden

I read somewhere recently that farmers have to pay to dispose of old tractor tyres, so they’re always happy for someone to take them off their hands, and immediately my gardening brain started whirring! Richard texted the farmer next door to us and asked him if he had any tyres going… well… spare, and heContinue reading “How to Upcycle a Tractor Tyre in the Garden”

Starting our Allotment Style Vegetable Plot

Another year, another vegetable garden! Now we’re living in Devon, we’re getting stuck into creating ourselves a new vegetable garden! We just have a small front garden at the house we’re living in, but we do also have a little orchard area that’s got lots of potential for growing fruit and vegetables! There’s a bareContinue reading “Starting our Allotment Style Vegetable Plot”

New Adventures in the West Country!

We’ve been absent from the blog for a while, as raising two small boys can be quite time consuming! In 2018 we had the opportunity to live as a family in the South of France, which we relished and inspired us to continue leading a different lifestyle, so when our adventure in France was over,Continue reading “New Adventures in the West Country!”

Another New Addition to the Garden!

We’ve been a bit quiet on the blog for a few months, firstly because it’s winter and there’s not much to report from the garden, but secondly because we’ve been rather busy bringing our latest addition into the world! Introducing Sebastian John Lee, born on the 31st January 2017! Henry is already proving to beContinue reading “Another New Addition to the Garden!”

Olive Harvesting in France

Happy memories of the time we spent living in the South of France, when one of our last tasks before heading back to England was harvesting the olive trees in the grounds of where we were living!

Henry’s First Harvest!

We’ve involved our 1 year old, Henry, in the garden as much as possible from a very early age, and now that he’s standing we can do much more with him around the raised beds than ever before! We always grow our potatoes in buckets, and when it came to harvesting our first main crops,Continue reading “Henry’s First Harvest!”

A Lovely Day in the Garden!

Just a quick post with a few photos from the garden today! The baby slept for a whole hour in his pushchair then happily sat and watched us while we finished our jobs – he loves being outside! Got lots of planting and weeding done, the raised beds are starting to fill up!

Asparagus Fail…

We love asparagus and eat quite a lot of it, but let’s be honest – the season is very short and asparagus is best served fresh from the garden, so when we buy it from the supermarket we know it’s not at its best, and it’s probably been flown in from some far-flung location! SoContinue reading “Asparagus Fail…”

Garden Update May 2016

It’s been a glorious weekend in our part of the UK and we’ve made the most of it by catching up on jobs in the garden! We did lots of tidying and planting; seedlings that we’d started in the greenhouse were desperate for potting on or planting out!
