The start of a New Growing Season

What lovely weather it’s been today!

Our first opportunity to get out in the garden as a family and get the growing season up and running for 2016!

It was also our first chance to introduce Henry to the garden, thanks to my Mum who spent the day walking him round, entertaining him, and pushing his pushchair at naptime!

We spent the day topping up the raised beds with fresh compost from our compost bins, tidying the greenhouse, building an x-frame for the runner beans and sowing the first seeds of the year!

I followed my garden plan on where to sow this year from the comfort of the patio!

I sowed the first seeds of the year, carrots and parsnips outdoors and tomatoes, courgettes, pumpkins, flower sprouts, brussels sprouts, kale, cauliflower and runner beans in the greenhouse. It’s a bit early for a few of these but I’ve got so many seeds I thought I might as well get a head start and if any of them don’t germinate, I’ll sow some more in a few weeks’ time! The tomatoes have come inside on to the kitchen windowsill too, to give them the extra warmth.

It’s been a really lovely day, and hopefully the first of many more to come this year!
